Estate Planning
Nobody volunteers to pay Tax, so why do so? There are ways in which you can legally avoid or mitigate Tax charges. We can assist you to plan for the future so that your hard-earned savings and other assets incur the least amount of Tax possible.
Wills
Two thirds of the adult population of Scotland never makes a Will. This means that on death their Estates are wound up in terms of a rigid set of rules which determine who the Beneficiaries are and what they get. This may not be in the interests of surviving family members so take the uncertainty away by making a Will now! It's not difficult and should only take an hour of your time.
Trusts
Trusts are extremely effective tax-planning tools and are used not just for high net worth individuals but in areas where it is essential to protect assets, such as the family home, from being disposed of to meet Tax bills. Early planning can make all the difference.
Tax
All areas of tax are encountered in the various types of planning we undertake for Clients. In complicated tax planning scenarios we can help access specialist advice in areas of Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning. We also deal with personal Income Tax and the completion of annual Self-Assessment Returns.
Help and Advice for Later Life
This is an area of major growth in recent years as the Benefit and Tax Credit System has developed. We help you ensure that you are receiving all the benefits and Tax Credits to which you are entitled, and we guide you through the various methods of funding Residential and Nursing Care.
Administration of Estates
Executry Estate administration is an area of expertise we have developed over many years. The rules and Tax requirements are complex as is the completion of all the necessary paperwork to enable an Estate to be wound up correctly. We can assist with all or part of the administration as each estate requires.
Power of Attorney
With the coming into force of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 it is essential that both elderly and not so elderly plan ahead with security to make sure that their business affairs are conducted properly when they become unable or unwilling to deal with them personally. Powers of Attorney are now registered with the Public Guardians office and are subject to detailed scrutiny, supervision and accountability. Granting a power of Attorney now can save expense later when it may be too late to do so, necessitating application to a Court for a Guardianship or intervention order.
